I am Ulyssa Elaine - Travel, Food and Lifestyle Blogger

After visiting the Space Needle, I walked for a few meters to reach Chihuly Garden and Glass. The weather didn't cooperated on the day of my visit.

» Chihuly Garden and Glass «

Chihuly Garden and Glass, opened in May 2012, is a glass museum with the comprehensive exhibits of the glass artist, Dale Chihuly. It is also located in Seattle Center.

It features the three components: the Glass House, the Garden and the Galleries.

» Admission «

Below are their rates (as of April 2020) but if you will purchase Seattle CityPASS, you will spend less:

Adult Rate (Ages 13-64):    $32

King Country*:                    $27

Senior (Ages 65+):              $27

Youth (Ages 5-12):              $19

Child (Ages 4 and below):   Free

» The Experience «

I had fully advantage of all the exhibitions. Though I'm not fond of museums, the artistic approach was very impressive. They truly highlighted the glass art.

After entering the building, I presented my CityPASS mobile ticket and redeemed my Chihuly Garden and Glass ticket. I headed to the exhibits before going into the Glasshouse and Garden area.

Note: Immerse yourself in the complimentary audio tour that you can access on your smartphone. Just visit www.chihulytour.com or scan the QR code posted at the wall entrance.

» The Exhibits «

Note: Still photography and video is allowed from a handheld device but uses of flashes, monopods or video cameras are prohibited.

The gallery is divided in ten sections:

Glass Forest
The mind-blowing gallery that showcases the beauty of glassblowing. It was created in collaboration with Jamie Carpenter of James Carpenter Design Associates Inc.

Northwest Room
The gallery that focuses on glass vessels and native American baskets. The curator is Rock Hushka, a Curator of Contemporary and Northwest Art of Tacoma Art Museum.

SeaLife Room
The Sealife Tower was inspired from the sea and Puget Sound. The curator is Rock Hushka, a Curator of Contemporary and Northwest Art of Tacoma Art Museum.

Persian Ceiling
The glass shapes are located on a clear ceiling and is spread in the entire room. The sculptor was Martin Blank.

Millie Fiori
Millie Fiori means a thousand flowers, an Italian word. Chihuly assembles gardens of glass as inspired by the memories of his mother's garden.

Ikebana and Float Boats
It features long, flower-like glass stems inspired by the Japanese art of ikebana.

Drawing Walls
After losing sight in his left eye and dislocating his shoulder, Chihuly started drawing to express his vision for arts.

Chandeliers
Chihuly had an interest in architectural settings and presented his first Chandelier.

Macchia Forest
A German stained glass with a colorful pallet of over 300 colors.

Theater
The room, where they present short videos about Chihuly.

» The Glasshouse «

A 40-foot tall, glass and steel structure is the centrepiece of Chihuly Garden and Glass.

» The Garden «

» Community Hot Shop «

Located in the Art Plaza, where you can catch a live glass-blowing demonstrations.

» Bookstore «

They offer a variety of works related to the glass artist, Dale Chihuly. They also offer souvenirs, partnered with Northwest companies.

I bought a postcard as a souvenir.

» Collections Cafe «

If you're feeling hungry, grab a bite at the Collections Cafe. They offer fresh and unique Northwest dining experience for lunch and afternoon bites. They offer starters, soups and salads, entrées and side dishes.

Unfortunately, I didn't try their food so I can't share the experience. I had my lunch at MOD Pizza, which is also located in Seattle Center. I will share it on my next post.

My fourth day in Washington. I was very excited to continue my Seattle journey but unfortunately, the weather was not good. It rained the whole day. 😂 Hooray that my itinerary that day was all indoors!

Without further ado, here's my Space Needle journey.

» Space Needle «

Space Needle, built in 1962, is the iconic observation tower and landmark in Seattle. It is located in Seattle Center.

A 43-second elevator will ride you up to the observation deck with glass walls. It also has the world's first revolving glass floor, known as the Loupe.

Going up gives you a spectacular view of Seattle.

» Admission «

Using Seattle CityPASS, the visitors are allowed to go for two visits within 24 hours: one during the day and one during the night. I made it up both during the day and the night. Just don't forget to bring your ticket for the second visit.

If you don't have a CityPASS, the regular admission of Space Needle is a bit steep. Below are their rates (as of April 2020):

Adult Rate (Ages 13+):     $37.50 / $59 (day/night pass)

Senior (Ages 65+):           $32.50 / $54 (day/night pass)

Youth (Ages 5-12):           $28.50 / $44 (day/night pass)

Child (Ages 3 and below): Free

Imagine the money that you will save from CityPASS, which only costs $100.

» The Experience «

There was a short line when I went there and I just presented my CityPASS mobile ticket at the ticket booth.

It wasn't my first time going up in an observation deck and it seems that my fear of heights was vanished. I love the view and it was an amazing experience!

The observation deck is located at the tower's top level (2nd floor) alongside with the cafe. The Loupe is located at the tower's top level (1st floor).

Skyrisers
These are tilted open-air glass benches that give visitors a chance to have a photo that make it seems they are floating above the Seattle skyline.

Atmos Cafe
Sandwiches and beverages are available here.

The Loupe
The world's first and only revolving glass floor.

I am getting compliments about my Seattle's photos in IG. As a first time solo traveler, it's really hard to capture a solo picture with a nice background. I wanted to capture my own special moment.

I love to try the famous SweetEscape, a photography service that allows you to book a local photographer. I checked the rates in Seattle area and it's a bit steep, which costs USD 400 for 2 hours duration and 100+ edited photos. I appreciate the efforts of the photographers around the world and I know it's not easy, huh.

I looked for other alternatives and did an extensive research. Oh well, I just discovered that aside from renting spaces (apartments, houses, etc) in Airbnb, you can now book photography services, tours, events and so much more. I started browsing through Airbnb Experiences and checked the most booked and popular photography service in Seattle. I found the Night Photoshoot in Pike Place Market and the rest was history.

» Night Photoshoot in Pike Place Market «

The photoshoot focuses on the host's favourite Instragram-able  spots in Pike Place Market. The photographer uses Sony a7ii and lenses for capturing awesome photos.

As soon I booked the trip, the host sent me a message regarding the shoot. It says that the shoot will start at 4:00 pm and lasts until 5:00 pm. He suggested to bring a jacket in case that it's cold and umbrella if it's raining. The meet-up location is located in 1912 Pike Place, Seattle, WA, where Starbucks is located. After a few minutes, Airbnb sent me a copy of my payment receipt.

About an hour before the meet-up, he sent me another helpful message with the confirmed meet-up time and place. He informed everyone that there were 3 participants  so make sure to go there at the exact time and place. He also reminded everyone to don't hesitate to send him a direct message if we have a few questions.

The shoot is mostly less than an hour but it varies depending on the number of people booked at that time. On my case, it lasted for an hour and we're just 3 guests: me and a couple.

According to the description box, it says that I'll end up a minimum of 40 edited photos sent digitally. But hey, I received 108 edited photos, which were terrific!

» Airbnb Experiences «

What's it's like to go on an Airbnb Experiences? Frankly, I was nervous to try it because I was a female solo traveler. I didn't let my guard down and just enjoyed the 1-hour time.

Cameron, the host and the photographer, is knowledgeable about the history of Pike Place Market. We walked all throughout the beautiful spots around the market. He's passionate about his works and did a good job.

I suggest if you will try the Airbnb Experiences, you should research carefully. I'm sure the level of experiences varies from host to host. Still, it's best to read reviews and make sure it appeals to you.

» My Edited Photos «

Beyond that, he was very professional and sent the photos a day after the shoot. Just like what I said, I received 108 edited photos. I would like to share a glimpse of my photos.

» My Airbnb Review «

By the way, I was his first Filipina participant. Here's the message I sent to him. If I would be back to Seattle, I would like to try the day photoshoot next time.

How about you? Have you tried Airbnb Experience? Share it down below.
