I am Ulyssa Elaine - Travel, Food and Lifestyle Blogger

March 5, 2016 - Our 5th day in Seoul was a rainy day. The first one on our travel list was to go to Nami Island but because of the weather, we didn't push it through. So we decided to jump on our itinerary and chose to travel the second one, which was Jade Garden.

Jade Garden is an arboretum located in Chuncheon, South Korea. It was opened in April 2011. It is called as "Small Europe in the Forest" and has been famous for filming locations of Korean movie and Korean dramas. One notable Korean drama was That Winter, The Wind Blows (2013), which was starred by Song Hye Kyo and Jo In Sung.

In Garden Restaurant

After roaming around the place, we decided to take a lunch in In Garden. Most items in the menu are fresh from the garden.

Garden Pork Cutlet - KRW 11,000

Dried Pollack Hangover Soup - KRW 10,000

How to Get There?

Ride an ITX going to Cheongpyeong Station. Ride a taxi from there because Jade Garden is not included on the Gapyeong Circle Bus attractions.

March 4, 2016 - After we went to Seoul Museum of Arts, we headed to Banpo-dong area to witness the Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain. Unfortunately, we failed to see it because the show operates only from April to October. Moving forward, we just headed to Some Sevit, which is located at Banpo-dong area too.

Some Sevit (formerly called as Hangang Floating Island) is the World's First Water Culture Complex. It is a complex made with 3 man-made islands: Some Gavit, Some Chavit and Some Solvit.

It is known as a popular area to hang-out with friends. There are restaurants, cafes, exhibitions, events, and performances in the area.

Everyone can enjoy the spectacular view at night. It is definitely a charm of the Han River!

Trivia: Some parts of the movie "The Avengers Age of Ultron" was filmed here. :)

The "Hyundai Card Culture Project 19 Stanley Kubrick" held an exhibit at Seoul Museum of Art last November 29, 2015 to March 13, 2016. It was first time he had an exhibition in Asia (biggest one yet), which features his lifetime works.

"Stanley Kubrick was an American film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, editor and photographer. He is one of the greatest and most influential person in the field of the cinematic history."

March 4, 2017 - We started our day by going to Cafe J Holic. The cafe was few steps away from our hotel in Myeong-dong.

Cafe J Holic is owned by one and only Kim Jae Joong. Who doesn't know about him? 🙌  He is best known as a member of K-pop group JYJ and also an original member of TVXQ. (I have known him since fourth year high school.)

Got it from AsianWiki

Cafe J Holic was established by Kim Jae Joong to his one and only fans and he wishes us (fans) the utmost comfort and happiness. 😊

The branch in Myeong-dong has a unique design with touches of yellow color. The coffee shop occupies 2 floors of the building: 3rd floor and 4th floor. The 3rd floor is the area wherein you can place your order and also lounge area. The 4th floor is the meeting room JH room and JJ room located.

My sister and I haven't been to the 4th floor because it was closed when we get there.

While waiting for our orders, we went to the comfort room. It's very cool! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to capture photos inside the cubicles. I guess Jae Joong is also a fan of K-drama Endless Love: Autumn in My Heart. 😂

This was what we ordered from the shop. (Sorry I didn't include the menu here.)

Kim Jae Joong was still in his military service when we visited his shop. Hopefully, soon we will able to see him. 😂

Are we going back? Definitely, yes! The food was awesome and the ambiance was relaxing!

Owooga Restaurant is a Korean barbecue restaurant that serves assorted grilled meat.

We ordered Samgyeopsal Meal Set (grilled pork loin, green tea bamboo rice, vegetables,  and nutritional sauce) for KRW 12,000 / $10+ per person.

The restaurant is famous for its Green Tea Bamboo Rice. I just discovered when I got home in the Philippines that you can take home the bamboo container when you are finished with your meal. It's a great souvenir, right?

Anyways, this restaurant is the best authentic Korean restaurant that we dined in so far. Hopefully, we will get back soon.

March is the month where winter transitions to spring in South Korea. We want to see and experience snow but what should we do to make it happen? I just decided that we should go to a ski resort. I got this idea from the famous bloggers, Vern and Verniece. They traveled to Alpensia Ski Resort last January 2016.

» Alpensia Ski Resort «

Alpensia Ski Resort is a ski resort and a tourist attraction located in Pyeongchang, South Korea. It will be one of the venues of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. After the Olympics, it will also host the 2018 Winter Paralympics.

It has six slopes for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy.

There are three main hotels located in this resort village: Intercontinental Hotel, Holiday Inn Hotel and Holiday Inn Suites.

» Booking Procedure «

Without further ado, I researched on how to get there. There are so many tours offering for roundtrip ski bus. There are also packaged ones. Because I want to make sure that we're safe on our first sisters' bonding trip abroad, I just availed the Purple Ski Bus from its TripToKorea.com website using my BPI Prepaid Card. After I booked our roundtrip bus tickets, I received a confirmation email from them. It costs me USD 68 (two persons) for our roundtrip bus tour from Myeongdong <-> Alpensia Ski Resort.

» Daewon Express (Purple Ski Bus) «

Purple Ski Bus is the main and convenient transportation to get to the ski resort. It also offers transport to neighboring ski resort, Yongpyong Ski Resort.

Guide of Bus Point (Seoul to Alpensia Ski Resort):
  • Bus Line: Seoul Station -> Myeong-dong Station -> Dongdaemun Gate -> Sports Complex Station -> Alpensia Ski Resort
  • Departure Time and Location:
    • Seoul Station: 7:50 AM
    • Myeong-dong Station: 7:55 AM
    • Dongdaemun Gate: 8:15 AM
    • Sports complex station: 9:00 AM

The bus point in Myeong-dong station is in front of Prince Hotel.

Guide of Bus Point (Alpensia Ski Resort to Seoul):
  • Bus Line: Alpensia Ski Resort -> Seoul
  • Departure Time and Location: 4:30 PM

The Alpensia resort bus arrival and depart bus stop point is in front of the welcome center: Holiday Inn Hotel.

» Ski Lift «

I'm really afraid of heights. Good thing my sister is not so she was able to capture our ski lift experience. We availed roundtrip ski lift tickets for 2 persons.

» Overall «

We really enjoyed our first ski experience. Hopefully, we will go back here soon after the Winter Olympics 2018.
