Caleruega Church is one of the popular tourist destination hailed as Top 1 Things To Do in Nasugbu, Batangas by Tripadvisor. It is also very popular for pre-nuptial shoots, wedding, special Sunday mass as well as retreat activities.

» How to get there? «

There are few options on how to get there: via private car or via bus (commute).
Screenshot from Google Maps
  • Via private car - If you will bring a car and you are are coming from Manila, take the Tagaytay - Nasugbu Highway route. Then, turn left to KC Hillcrest Hotel and Country Club. Just follow the signage going to Caleruega Church.
  • Via bus (commute) - Ride a bus either BSC, San Agustin or DLTB with a signage of Nasugbu Batangas. Tell the conductor to drop you at KC Hillcrest Hotel and Country Club or if he's not familiar, tell him that you're going to Caleruga. Once you take off the bus, ride a tricycle going to Caleruega Church. The fare is only Php 20 / head.

Note: The terminal of BSC and San Agustin is located in Pasay City (near MRT Taft Station and opposite of Metro Point Mall). The terminal of DLTB is located in Gil Puyat (beside Jam Bus Terminal).

This place will serve as your landmark going to Caleruega. You will see this signage on the left side after you pass by the "Welcome to Batangas City" arch.

Once you reached Caleruega, there's a big tarpaulin on the entrance, which welcomes the visitors of the place. The opening hours, office hours as well as the Sunday mass schedules are indicated there.

» Is it free or not? «

There's a maintenance fee of Php 30.00 per visitor but entrance fee will be waived for those people who will attend a Sunday mass from 10:30 am to 11:00 am.

» What to see there? «

  • Admin Building - You will see this building upon entering the gate. If you will go to Caleruega's Transfiguration Chapel, you need to enter this building.

Note: Please prepare for a long, uphill walk going to the chapel. We felt very exhausted going uphill (maybe because of the hot weather). But once you reached the chapel, everything will be worth it.

  • Lobby - Upon you enter the building, you will see this beautiful lobby with a staircase. Christmas is coming so there are few decorations around the staircase.

  • Retreat House - After you pass by at the lobby (Admin Building), you will see a retreat house surrounded with beautiful flowers, plants and trees.

  • Caleruega's Transfiguration Church - After walking uphill, you will see this beautiful and sacred church.

When I entered the church, I was amazed on how beautiful inside. I had a moment silence and prayed and thankful for all the blessings I currently receive and will receive in the future.

Back to the topic, so what's special about this place for me? Caleruega is a great place for family bonding because you are close to God as well as the nature.

This trip was made by possible by my cousins because we celebrated my birthday as well as his son. We purchased 3 rooms for 15 people (5 persons per room) for a rate of Php 3,500 per room.

» The Food «

The hotel comes with free buffet breakfast at Veranda Cafe. What I don't like here was we have to drive over to get to the lobby just to eat food. By the way, it's far away from the hotel rooms. On the positive side, the breakfast available was delicious enough.
